Beta Tester Agreement

Thank you for testing RosettaFi. This sets out what you are agreeing to. It is short, because the arrangement is simple: you get the software free, and we get to find out what breaks before people start paying for it.

What you get, and what it costs

Full use of the RosettaFi software during the beta period, at no charge. No payment details, no card, no subscription. When the beta ends we will offer you a complimentary one-year subscription; you are under no obligation to take it.

You are not an employee, contractor or partner of ours, and neither of us owes the other anything beyond what is written here.

What we are asking of you

Use it on your own real statements. The main value of a beta is real statements from real brokerages laid out in ways we did not anticipate.

Tell us when something breaks. A short description and the log file is plenty. The log records counts and error codes only — no dollar amounts, security names or account numbers — so sending it does not send us your private information.

Tell us which brokerage it was. That is the single most useful thing you can give us, because supporting more brokerage statement formats is the goal of the beta.

Beta software is unfinished, and you should treat it that way

It may crash, misread a statement, or need reinstalling. It is provided with no warranty of any kind.

Keep your brokerage statements. Do not rely on RosettaFi as your only record of anything during the beta, and do not use its figures for any official purpose. Your statements from your brokerage remain the authoritative record.

Keep your own backups of the database. It lives on your computer, and we cannot restore it for you.

Your data during the beta

Everything in our Privacy Policy applies to you, unchanged. Your financial data stays on your computer. We do not receive your database.

Sharing a statement with us is per file and completely voluntary, for the purpose of solving a categorization or reconciliation problem. There is a button; you see exactly what would be sent; nothing goes unless you press it. If you share one, we use it only to improve how statements are read, and we do not retain it after the broker's statement format is added to our library.

We will never ask you to share your database, and you should be suspicious of anyone claiming to be us who does.

Confidentiality — narrow on purpose

Please do not publish screenshots of unreleased features or share the installer with people we have not invited. We are a small operation and a half-finished build circulating publicly is a real problem for us.

Everything else you are free to talk about, including your honest opinion of the software.

Feedback

If you suggest an improvement and we build it, we own what we build and owe you nothing for it. That is the normal arrangement for a beta test of new software and we would rather say it plainly than bury it. It does not apply to anything you tell us in confidence about your own affairs.

When the beta ends

We will give you at least 14 days' notice. Your data stays where it is — on your computer — and remains readable whether or not you subscribe. Nothing is deleted, locked, or held hostage to a purchase.

If you do subscribe, everything you have already imported carries straight over. You do not start again.

Ending it early

Either of us can stop at any time, for any reason, with no notice and no hard feelings. Email support@rosettafi.com.
